National virtual bikeathon held this June with 18 partners

NATIONAL, June 30, 2021: The 17th annual Canada Africa Partnership (CAP) Ride passed its target fundraising target of CAD $100,000 for Canadian projects and organizations supporting community-led development in Africa.
The event, organized by the CAP Network, launched on June 1st with a virtual opening ceremony featuring remarks by Canadian Eco-Explorer Mario Rigby. Throughout the week, over 140 participants on 34 teams each rode 15km within their own communities across the country while participating in a team scavenger hunt challenge. Riders reconvened on Sunday, June 6th for the closing ceremony, where results and team prizes were announced.
“It has been a great experience participating in the 2021 CAP Ride,” said Diane Laakso, Founder & President of Graceland Africa Mission. “We appreciated the opportunity to strengthen engagement with our supporters while raising funds for our Right To Be program supporting girls’ education in Kenya. This event provides the platform for like-minded organizations to work together towards a common goal. We were proud to reach our team’s fundraising goal while also contributing to helping the whole ride meet its overall goal!”
Through the campaign, the 18 participating partners have already raised $100,769 for community-led projects promoting health, advancing education, supporting livelihoods, championing women and girls, and adapting to a changing climate in African communities.
Participating partners included CAP Network and nine of its affiliates, namely Afrah Orphans Education Center, the Africa Climate Action Initiative (ACAI), Bridging Worlds Through Music (BWTM), CAPAIDS, Neloshan International, the Pan African Centre for Climate (PACC) Policy, The Rainmaker Enterprise, Village of Love Canada, and the Zanzibar-Canadian Diaspora Association (Zacadia); and eight Canadian charities, specifically the Adventist Development & Relief Agency (ADRA) Canada, ABCD: Art Building Children’s Dreams, Beautiful World Canada, Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR), Crossroads International, Graceland Africa Mission, the Interagency Coalition on AIDS and Development (ICAD), and The Olive Branch for Children (TOBFC).
The ride happens every June, hosting Canadian organizations supporting community-led development in African communities, and has taken place as a virtual campaign for the past two years.
