The Nyakim Project is a Toronto- and Kenya-based nonprofit dedicated to unlocking potential through education. We support children in Kilifi, Kenya—one of East Africa’s most economically challenged regions—where approximately 70% of the population lives below the poverty line, making access to education incredibly difficult for children.
The project cover school fees, uniforms, and learning materials for students who would otherwise be unable to attend school. But their support doesn’t stop there. The Nyakim Project also takes a holistic approach, addressing the barriers that prevent children from thriving in the classroom by providing food security, emergency healthcare, and emotional support.
This work was inspired by a young girl named Nyakim, whose simple yet powerful plea to attend school sparked the beginning of this project. What started in a refugee camp with one child’s determination to learn has grown into a mission to transform the lives of many through education.
We work closely with Dorcas Community Organization, a trusted local partner led by lifelong educator Rhoda Mumo, to identify students in need and ensure they have the resources required to learn and grow. Dorcas Community Organization is located in Kilifi, Kenya.
The Nyakim Project invites donors to help create meaningful, long-term change for children in Kilifi, Kenya. Contributions directly support access to education and help meet students’ everyday needs—from school materials to nutrition and healthcare. Your generosity helps remove the roadblocks standing between a child and their future!
